MUSEUM
The cretaceous wall along the right side of the Gironde river, next to Meschers, own caves dug by the ocean and then shaped by man. Moreover, these caves were the witness of a lot of events :
Men have elected domicile in the caves since Prehistory, they have seen passed Saracens, the terrifying Vikings, brigands, pirates… ; then protestants came into the caves to practise their religion secretly…
Poor populations, fishermen, widows… used to live in Matata caves, but in few years, in the 1920’s, they became the smartest tourist point for the upper-class.
A reconstitution of the troglodyte habitat and the location of the caves, make this site very attractive.
